THE EROTICIST (1972) - Lucio Fulci

Gore guru and giallo godfather Lucio Fulci takes an early career stab (or grab) at the sex comedy with modest but not entirely disappointing results. The Eroticist (aka The Senator Likes Women...Despite Appearances and Provided the Nation Doesn't Know) is about an Italian politician battling the occasional uncontrollable impulse to pinch women (and sometimes men) on their derrieres. Yes, you can make an entire movie out of that. At least in the '70s, you can.

Most of the comedy in The Eroticist comes from the government and the Vatican's attempts to do damage control around the senator's handsy impulses. Most of the perversion...straight from Fulci's raincoat-wearing id. There are some amusing moments here and there, in an early Woody Allen sort of way. Not Fulci's work best by far. But not The Psychic or The New Gladiators either.
