THE BOOGENS (1981) - James L. Conway


Would you be scared of the E.T.-meets-Timmy-the-Turtle mutation pictured above for a full 95 minutes? Probably not. The producers of the haunted mine shaft cheapie The Boogens must have realized the same thing, and this is why they opted not to show titular Boogens in full until the last five minutes. Until then, you get lots of spooky, abandoned mines threatening to cave in, the occasional character being slashed about the throat or face with a disembodied tentacle, some crude sex humor and just a dash of female nudity. Basically, the Jaws approach, but underground instead of underwater. What is a Boogens exactly? And where does it come from? I still have no idea...
