LADY IN THE LAKE (1947) - Robert Montgomery
The first and only (that I know of) first-person shooter of the film noir genre. Director/lead Robert Montgomery adds some spicy Sriracha sauce to the Phillip Marlowe legacy by putting you, the viewer, behind the camera and directly into the famous Chandler gumshoe's loafers. It's a neat trick and adds some interesting Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style zip to an otherwise standard whodunnit plot. Others have done the POV thing since-- Gaspar Noe in Enter the Void, as a recent example--but Lady in the Lake got there first and with the most style. Everything else is sloppy seconds.
