THE WARRIORS (1979) - Walter Hill

A thirteen-year-old Kansas boy's fever dream of what it would be like to be in a gang in 1970's New York. Still the oddest film in Hill's otherwise workmanlike oeuvre and, more odd than that, probably the most successful. After all, it's not like anyone's going to be making a video game out of the Ralph Macchio vehicle Crossroads anytime soon. In case you don't buy that this movie takes place squarely in some alternate reality New York, consider this: the hardest of the hardcore gangs in all of NYC hails from Gramercy Park.
