GERONIMO: AN AMERICAN LEGEND (1993) - Walter Hill
Both a classical western and a classy corrective to the Injun-killin' Hollywood oaters of the past. All the performances are excellent, appropriately tinged with melancholy and regret for yet another shameful chapter in American history. There may be a little too much narration at times, a tad too much preaching in spots and not a whole heap of action, but this is a wiser, older director's western and a damn good one at that. After this and Extreme Prejudice, I'm thinking Hill should work from John Milius scripts more often. If there's any luck, maybe the old boys have one last collaboration left in 'em.
